Cappiello - Day 4 - Sara Dowse

Leonetto
Cappiello
Italian
French

made
a fortune
making
posters

dubbed
the sire
of making
money

the most
sensuous
blandishments
of the day

Campari
Cinzano
Frou Frou
Mossant

The Calvin Kleins
and Peronis
Stella Artois
of his time

But I fell
upon another
Cappiello
the hidden one
with the soul

Broad as a beach
foaming like an ocean
a drawing of
his grief
mine too

if I could draw
a horse like his
and the wounded
rider upright
on his mount

Too many wounded
too many soldiers
too many wars
to etch out the ineffable
in his art
