Kit Kelen #337 - unknown soldiers (for Dafna Staretz)

337
unknown soldiers

for Dafna Staretz

in the Garden of Paradise
are they not the blessing

fallen to ashes
the image remains

this visage shows

is this not the peace
for which they have given

we dream it
dream with them
we are the one truth

all sing
blow trumpets
bring walls down

weren't we the ears all listening
aren't we the same eyes to watch

one less
one more of those bastards gone
where do they spring from
how are they so many

who feeds them
who breathes life
in their hatred

'their dead are as ours'
no, blasphemy

'not the same'
is the either-side echo

death echoes in our everyday

freedom fighters
homeland defenders

death might come at any hour
any of us could be a next martyr

the moment
stars the firmament
each little anger

are they brothers
whose brothers
fathers, cousins, uncles, sons
women are among them too

their dead are bent from a lie
ours are truth's purer form

they are memory stood up to shine

no, the numbers are never equal
stones against rifles
bottles for bombs

how sly their dead are

they lock me away for saying
lock me out of their hearts

death echoes in our everyday

night could come at any hour
any of us might be martyred

the firmament
is all such stars

they have fallen for an evil whim

our dead are brighter
than daylight

there is no telling
these faces apart

the death mask
shows the noble features

and here is the criminal mind
this less-than-human tricked to our shape

death is such a little change
see same smile
we're with them now

where is the peace
for which they have given

must not ask why
no, none of us must

each is a nail
in our enemy's coffin

we dream it
dream with them
we are the one truth

no telling
what's a question now

all sing
blow trumpets
bring walls down

fallen to ashes
the image remains

in the Garden of Paradise
are they not the blessing

this visage
this – the remembering

be ever mindful
of what they have given

are our hearts now not full

will laughter
will tears
come to them again

death is what we cannot know
they are there for us

is this not the peace
for which they have given

we dream it
dream with them
we are the one truth

step into the mirror
and see
