Kit Kelen #338 - the fixed stars

the fixed stars

I'm bashing my head against a brick wall
(let's call that civilisation)

this is better than someone else bashing my head against a brick wall
(it's less distressing, and with the right care, getting the angles right,
it might even be less painful)

I'm bashing my head against a brick wall
this is better than bashing someone else's head against a brick wall
it's more civilised (a moral advance!)

of course this could be a group activity
but, for today, I'm just starting off by myself

I'm bashing my head against a brick wall
you could think of this as mind over matter
(you can kid yourself about all sorts of things)

what will we think of next?

I have sometimes been called hard headed
today I have decided to use more force

I'm bashing a wall down
(you get into the rhythm)

this clears the view
and the roof comes down with it
fresh air! and what vistas!
clouds come in

the world of nature!
no sign of real weather though

it's great to breathe
to see what's what
it gives you a chance to think

that's how you get a glimpse of the future
that's the gleaming thing
requires a plan

I have an idea
for all of this rubble

it's like somewhere
I could hang a lightbulb
(handy when the sun's
out of the picture)

now where could I put one of them?
need a rafter

I can see all before me as a puzzle now
something practical to be solved

I pick up a first broken brick
from the dust

that's how I start
just small

it's as if this pile of bricks
had been left here by fate
as a suggestion
I should have a roof over my head

I mix sand and water
with dust from the rubble

that's how I pat down my first course of bricks
