Kristen de Kline #44 - Good times

he said there's a place in the heart
that will never be filled
that's where we sit
that's where we wait
you were stuck there
too long

you can feel things
turning,
twisting
in the midnight hour
fault lines being sealed up
giant rolls of Sellotape
bridging gaps in highways hearts

you got drunker sung louder fought harder
were thrown into paddy wagons
finger-printed, greasy ink over your palms
you're a drowned rat
in all of the video recordings
tattooed in sweat
dripping over charge sheets
drowning
going
down
never gently

you don't know
what happened to that place in the heart
that wasn't ever going to be filled
you don't know
what happened to being stuck
in that space
waiting
ticking
waiting

someone
twisted, turned
you heard a poet talking about
good times wonderful times
suddenly things were
possible again
you showered shampooed conditioned your hair
sprayed CK Eternity everywhere
let the cat knead into the mink blanket
till it was shredded, loose threads
sprouting
let the sunlight good times daylight
back into those spaces

you're not so sure anymore
that place in the heart will never be filled
you don't know what to think
you can feel good times
forcing their way through the fault lines
up the train tracks
you can feel the good times
stroking hair, kissing lips
touching you
in that place
in your heart
eating away
at your insides

things good times
seem
       possible
             again
