Robert Verdon, #375, To the Dark beach

the moon rose into the steamed-open night

mother moon, wide as Australia

the surf curled onto the dark beach

a star grazed velvet water

there were cities on the moon

they had found water below

these days made it from transmuted elements

a billion lived there now

the earth was no longer a village

we padded down, down, down

to the dark beach
