It does not rain
I leave bowls outside
with water for snakes

My tenant
from a European city
arrives
ten hours late
because she stopped
at a tourist attraction along
the way
and then had to nap
somewhere for many hours
along the highway

She has a boyfriend
who turns up later
with shopping bags
from Emporio Armani

She is young and pretty

When we meet
she yawns
as I try to teach her
how to turn on
the hot water in the bathroom
then complains of
cold showers in the morning
