Why We Die - Day 20 - Sara Dowse

Through a slit in the bathroom blind
I see his ute in the parking lot.
Black and shiny,
patient for Mandy.

He is there every weekend
black and shiny,
polished for Mandy.

And I think as I towel myself
of the smile on her face.
Dreamy, postcoital,
is Mandy.

But on the bookcase
behind my pillow -
your shadow.
Remembering my face perhaps,
the features blurred yet shining.

Curious, that.
Was it a killer’s smile?

Unintended,
consequential,
nonetheless.

    1. Was going to call it Sex and Death but thought that was too straightforward. Glad you like it spooky.
