Ken Trimble #3 The Jataka tales (Australian style)

I am listening to the hollow bamboo
and my mind floats back to a Friday
just past when I sat with friends
drinking whisky retelling stories

of our times in India. Surrounded
by Kabir and Mirabai and old man
Tagore we celebrated hard to
that mysterious land of tablas and ragas.

Shakyamuni has entered the room
along with poets as we laughed, and
told our wild stories
and I felt time suspended

in that glory of glory's
where simpatico reigned supreme
words drip from the walls
and my feet are covered in the
language of heart

Sisters and brothers of the word
as John said, 'In the beginning
was the word'.

Ten years on this journey of
words a ride into Alice in Wonderland.
has changed my life forever.

right on John Donne
write on.
