KA Rees #45 - Filthy Hide

Filthy Hide

With lyrics from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

I never lied
When I called Scott Morrison son of coal,
Or that other minister up in Queensland, who makes his money
digging holes. I never lied when I rang
the hotline to report a government of firebugs
while we wait for policy, we are afraid to melt
into the sky but they would rather say it’s the latte sipping brigade—
if you look at it, the numbers of people in the city
and country worried about climate change
are the same and they outweigh the naysayers.
But like a moth that enters the light there’s only
one way to go and it’s made of wood and wire—
A truth for a truth; we weren’t the ones who lied.
