KA Rees #46 - Filthy Hide remixed

Filthy Hide remixed

With lyrics from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds & words from the Mayor of Glen Innes, Carol Sparks

I never lied
When I called Scott Morrison son of coal,
Or that other minister up in Queensland who makes money
digging holes. I never lied when I rang
the hotline to report a government of fire bugs
fire thugs slack jaws slick with fuel load,
while we wait for policy they double down
say no policy the fault of grass, trees, scattered leaves
surely better cut for matchsticks to stick into boxes
for green voters, lost lost to the fires.
Politicians unafraid to melt our wealth deliver us ashes
but they say it’s the latte sipping brigade—
though the same numbers of people in the city
and country worry about climate change
and they outweigh the naysayers. But like a moth
that enters the flame there’s only the one way—
to go down with wood and wire
A truth for this truth. We weren’t the ones who lied.
