Susan Hawthorne #338 boat to Uruguay

I never knew it was just a ferry ride away
rising early we canter to the port in a cab
soon we discover it's the wrong embarkation point
another cab and we three sigh with relief

long hours of talking stories of our lives
the old town of Colonia is quiet    bird call
surrounds us dogs sunbake on the lawn
coffee and medialunas brought to the table

escaping the city such a relief we breathe
and breathe again slowly the sea air
walking the old city which looks like
a Spanish village transported trans-Atlantic

more walking and for lunch we stumble
across a Turkish restaurant great food
Turkish coffee almond liqueur and baklava
time to take the ferry back to diesel city
