Mikaela Castledine #147 Where the Creek Runs

To the side
where the creek runs over
it’s banks when the rain has been heavy
the weedy grass is combed
into those same isotherms which
just the previous evening told us
that the rain was coming
When it fulls in a quiet moment
we can hear the roaring
all the way up to the house
after a rained delay while the runoff
collects itself into the culvert
then gathers a head and gives it
to the hill
carding through the rooted reeds
raking through the litters and the gravel
carrying a solid bodied block of stone
tumbling through to the weir
on the other side of the driveway
and then subsiding
back into its bed
which it has made
and now must lie in

  1. this is like a slightly scary dream! destructive and benign forces so close to one's home ...effective, to say the least :)
