Kerri Shying R # 464 - drumhead cabbages solid through the heart

you cooked me sausages   the creamy boiled German ones
that tear like silk voile on the tooth   pale not bland
another surprise in our  sweet cul de sac   safariland
of small dogs   unleashed   seeking the other out
little fur missiles  whimpering  at gates  where like calls to like

drumhead cabbages  solid through the heart

fattening for the sustenance   of winter  people
impervious to bugs  that lay the summer  greens  to waste
we are the long strides   taken  when  the fire
so easy to ignite  in young creek beds   is taken on the road
hidden from the air until the moment comes    to breathe
