Was it Brecht who said
anyone who is laughing
hasn't yet heard the bad news
and here we hammer away
at what falls between
at everything that skips
and who is laughing at this
you'd be demented
a dent in the head
a bag of nails by the roadside
but it's just a poem
tomorrow brings another poem
and they'll collect
and be gathered up
and except for the mental state
I think it's free
voices from the broken wing
the clouds opened and closed
nothing to a thing
everything to me
clouds open and close
