Chrysogonus' Translation #61 - from Anna Couani's "Morpheus III"

Morpheus membangunkanku pagi-pagi
ia belum lagi tidur
berdiri di jalan di luar
meracau pulang selepas  malam
berhenti, kencing di taman kami
bergumam maki-makian
tertuju pada teman
lalu mengucap gusar
suatu kuliah panjang
belum pernah terdengar
ia yakin pada seni, bukan kepalsuan
tapi ia salah

pagi begitu dingin dan segar
pembangunan telah dimulai
kucing mencakar pintu ingin keluar
telur berdesis di wajan
matahari mengintip dari ruang depan
menyinari rak buku
rumah hangat semejak malam
buka pintu bagi kucing
ciumlah udara kini penuh
hari baru yang menggantung

dan malam sebelumnya

Morpheus wakes me up in the early hours
he didn’t sleep yet
standing in the street outside
rambling home after closing time
pausing to take a leak in our garden
mouthing a few words of abuse
at some companion
then starts a full-blown rant
some kind of lecture
that no one listened to before
he believed in art not artifice
but he was wrong

the morning is cool and fresh
construction work has already started
the cat scratches at the door to get out
the eggs sizzle in the pan
the sun is glinting in the front room
lighting up the bookcase
the house warm from last night
open the door for the cat
sniff the air now laden
with the new day
and the night before
