it started on the weekend
writing an opinion piece
to protect Australian writers
and publishers
so two days later I am tweeting
more than ever before
I hate Twitter except
as a forum for haiku
but haiku it was not
in between the fellows
who were meant to come at 10 am
with preparations for laying
new turf did not arrive
so after an early lunch
I'm at a webinar about legal matters
at 1 pm the turf layers arrive and I'm off
first the stones then the topsoil
breaking lumps in topsoil
is like rubbing butter through
flour to make pastry
I've also been tropical gardening
cutting the branches from geisha girls
cutting the overgrown palm fronds
pulling nut grass and mimosa weed
then the turf arrives it's like laying
carpet tiles
wheel the turf tiles
to their spot open out and place
again and again and again
water the turf so it grows
next morning we are scraping mulch
from the back a ute raking it into position
who says life in the tropics is laid back?
I forgot to mention finalising
the print-ready pages for a new book
talking to festival organisers
writing poems for this blog
sheeeesh :)
