Bronwyn Rodden #17 Journey to Ink

Red Waterfall, 80cm x 120cm, watercolour on paper

Again I’m using watercolour, pushing it to its limits, working with water as a critical medium, allowing it to flow over the page as it will, in a fierce effort to express my anger over our decimation of the landscape. This is the first of a series of waterfalls that I don’t seem to be able to finish! Partly it was inspired by visiting the paleobotanist, Dr Mary White, at her environmental retreat near Taree. From her preserved land you could see two beautiful but slender waterfalls, and somehow these reminded me of this small, elderly but tough lady working so hard to protect the natural world for the future.

    1. Even without explanation i could feel the violent anger, it's a powerful image, like a picture shot from above of some massacre ... a bad wound on mother earth's skin ...
