1 Bronwyn Rodden #6 Cloud Acrylic on canvas
30cm x 30cm
In this work I wanted to blend my
love of the spiral as a form – an abstract representation of the journey of life
as used in many cultures, including my own, the Irish – and the lightness and
fizz of summer clouds. This piece won me a Highly Commended at the inaugural
Pyrmont Art Prize and one of the organizers suggested that I should approach a minimalist
gallery in Paddington. I would have, but wasn’t sure exactly which gallery they
meant, I was in the middle of life events that took precedence and in the end
didn’t do anything about it. I still own the picture and it reminds me of lost
opportunities. However, for each opportunity missed, a new track is taken, and
I’m not sure if I would have had a better time or created such a diversity of
art and writing if I had been successful in winning an ongoing place in a
Sydney gallery, rather than doing exactly what I’ve wanted to do all these
years.
Love the piece and the narrative Bronwyn. x
