Kerri Shying R # 97 Pleurisy

Pleurisy

there’s a clicking
like a stuck joint
when I breathe out
it tells me

something
about what the next week
looks like
feels like
what clothes need washing

is the crockpot
clean

behind the door inside the bedroom
the calendar from Frankie
just two months
at a time

calendars for the body for the doctors for the meditation
for the writing for the household
 they fold in
they fold in
they are

the origami game
of primary girls
she tells her fortune
based on numbers

we call them obs
bp temp the BUN

I check my stores
of what can kill
and what gives ease

without a cure there’s only what
can hold
the thing at bay

the finger in the dyke
the opiate of the individual
 in pain

forever knowing
it will end

and there’s the rub
