Rob Schackne #115, Terry & Jill (8)

8.

(Many years after that.)

Terry and Jill calmly walked out of the compound together.

They go 20 miles or so along the top of a cliff on the coast of Oregon.

They stand and watch the sun setting in the ocean to the West.

The sea is turning a gentle gold, and the waves gather into their reflective calm.

A ship is sighted out there coming in from the crest of the world.

Somehow I remember there were some blues.

Many birds were following them.

For old times sake (and for many years after that) they tried mating.

We believe they were in love.

  1. It's pretty silly, Efi. But it seems I've written several fractured fairy tales like this. One about the reincarnations of Mao Zedong. I even have one about a panda who, crated and transported, falls off the back of a truck in large Chinese city, and is promptly robbed of bamboo shoots, knocked over by a bicycle, chased by insensitive, hooting hoards, beaten with sticks, etc. All of which I will NOT post here. (Applause!)

  2. Opening a new vein in the tradition of Ogden Nash, Edward Lear and Spike Milligan?

    1. Ha. Big shoes indeed. Probably best to stick with the stand up...
