has turned milky

but an artist has painted

some tree trunks blue

like the whitewash painted on trees

in the Mediterranean

more blue because of the smog

and more blue because they’re

planted in rows

and more blue because

the blue is painted high up into the canopy

and along the small branches

I start imagining being up there

with a brush
