we meet again
(day's wallaby encounter)
and you're all ears
a scrubby stillness haunched
rotate and gone
you're the track, as of legend
red necked nibbler
round as bounce
as hill, as sky
as river run
and as of thud
here, vanishing
roof is a ratatat
now in the rain
I should have worn a hat
for sun between
here we are can I say
face to face?
we meet again
and you're gone
I really respond to 'round as bounce', just right, and all the sound and movement in this one.
ReplyDeletelove how you create the sense of being bookmarked suddenly by a natural presence followed by its equally natural absence
ReplyDeletemeeting the wildlife, yes! I have the same experience with the possum on our neighbour's roof.
ReplyDeletewe meet again and you're gone ... is it a philosophical insight like you never really meet a "true self", a true people, but an image, a reflection, a projection of our own...???? i like to read it this way!!!
ReplyDeleteWallabies are very shy. I like the way this poem holds its consistency throughout, giving it another level (like briefly and accidentally meeting an old friend or past lover).
