Robert Verdon, #346, camouflage

lizard on a path
looking up, as they do
lungs like little bellows
(cold blood,
but it reminds me now
for no especial reason
of a steam engine I had as a kid
that broke and was never repaired
or replaced)
lizard waiting to bolt
thinking it is camouflaged from us
ironically I almost stepped on it at first
thinking it a stick
camouflage is not always
protection
I walk on
thoughtfully
