I’ve been glancing at my ‘Votes for Women
Everywhere’ tea towel
framed on my back wall
it's an image from the Suffragist exhibition in London
over twenty years ago,
a hopeful glance, over these last election weeks
making connections
I remember the Brownie leader at the museum with her pack
viewing footage of Emily Davison at the Grand National
falling before The King’s horse,
saying to the young girls, This
is what they did for us,
how I was so moved and still am
Tonight my husband apologised to me and all the women
he knows, for men
he knows, for men
yes! you can say that again!
ReplyDeleteHappy 300, it's a beautiful poem on a sad day.
