Refusal # 110 Claine Keily

She remembered her saying
that the reason
he had so many lovers
was that he was afraid
the weight of his disappointment
would weight too heavily
on one

But I saw things differently
saw his polygamy
as an act of sadism
a calculated refusal
to give women
what it is they want

  1. A complicated poem. Weighty. Dark & deep. Refusal is the first act of bravery. The speaker's refusal to accept the explanation. Dear Claine, I love the Olympian, but perhaps a third stanza - what do you think?

    1. Mmm not so sure about a third stanza Rob as this poem is specific as far as being based on someone I know and I only ever interacted with one other woman who had also been involved with this man.
