Brian Purcell # 1 I Want

Greetings, my name is Brian Purcell, and I feel privileged to have been invited to post to Project 365 + 1 for the month of April. As a poet and a painter, I thought it would be fun to try and couple works together and see what happens.

My first painting is 'Trees at Kungala' and the poem is 'I want'. This poem was published in the anthology 'Notes for the Translators', collected and edited by Kit Kelen, published by ASM and Cerberus Press.
See you tomorrow!

I want

      no-one to explain
the poetry of earth to me
the mineral composition
of the riverbank
to number
the sands on the shore
of the lake
the tractor clears
brush like tearing
skin the fossicker           up
looks
from his hole and
sees                     blinking
mute ghost-gums
looking too quickly
            see
wanting so much to
light
moving through stone         appearing
fortune stars of
delirium pock-marked
fingers
of branches falling
in the knotted
land arms      never
closer
I want
no-one to explain this
light this rain mingling
the old man’s
dreams that seam
failures washing
his sieve the tears we
encourage     understand a
deluge into which we may
disappear for the moment
I want
no-one to explain
your silences the
aftermath of every
hope he held when he bowed
down to the assembled trees
I want
to explain                   no-one

  1. Welcome to the blog, Brian. I like what you have done here, although the brief is to write a poem or create an artwork every day, not to post work done previously.

    1. Hi Myron, yes I've quickly been set right here, now I know and today's works are unpublished. Cheers Brian
