Anna Couani #115

it’s always a shock to see the sheer cliffs
of the Blue Mountains’ valleys
and hear myself say
I lived there
I loved that place
when so much of my time
has now been spent in the city
city city
and feel a sense of belonging there too
and I looked at that photo of the cliffs
of the artist sitting at the cliff top drawing
saying, it was right at the edge
and remembering that sense
you always have looking into those valleys
of vertigo
almost falling over
and that incredible hush

  1. Thanks for reminding me about the hush. I have been thinking about the Blue Mountains, childhood place, holiday place, that wildness. The awe. Well observed, lovely poem.
