I cry for the dead
for Alcestis for those
who died for some
inflated sense of loyalty
I cry for those who died
too soon or too late
with no one left to grieve
or remember them
I cry for the unloved
lost from friendship
who left families riven
with hatred or indifference
I cry for the over loved
never able to leave
the love-strewn house
caged in golden bars
I cry simply because
there are too many ways
to get it wrong and too few
to find the path through
Thank you for this poem on this day.
ReplyDeleteThanks, an unintentional coincidence.
ReplyDeleteSo much to grieve for. Poignant.
