#143 Kevin Brophy 'Forms of life'

The swans on the lake
The lake under the swans
The lake surrounding the swans
The black swans on the light blue lake
Under armies of clouds on many sides
The swans low hooting calls to each other
The swans rising to make the long flat sound
Of feathery pages being turned in a library of books
Then on and on turning to the last page of each book
The swans on the quiet lake that feeds them from below
The black swans talking on the glistening lake in the actual day

  1. Thanks for this information. I wasn't aware that black swans were in the outback...Interesting form and structure in this poem.
