#FreeSavchenko Version 2 11.3.2016 (#70) by Myron Lysenko

Russia begins
an undeclared war
against Ukraine

blindfolded
while tending to wounded
Ukrainian soldiers

Ukrainian pilot
kidnapped by Russians separatists—
handcuffed to a metal pipe

charged with a murder
which took place an hour
after her capture

day one
of her hunger strike
in a Russian jail

her brave fight
against Russian oppression--
Nadia Savchenko

as her body weakens
her resolve strengthens—
rain and ice

fifty-five days
on a hunger strike—
light snow

Savchenko—
she stands up for the rights
of all Ukrainians

wasting away
on day seventy eight—
zero degrees

her people
beg her not to die—
Ukrainian martyr

on day eighty three
she takes chicken broth--
changing tactic

from her cage
she gives the court the finger
sunlight at the windows

“dead or alive
they will return me
to Ukraine”
