a collection of stuff on the table
the pottery platter made by a friend
gum nuts, seed pods and banksia cones
all collected locally
some brilliant red pods from trees in the main road
strange spiky pods from a tree round the corner
opposite the pub
a pair of sunglasses that someone left behind
all this on the crocheted doily
made by my grandmother
Anna Harami
so precious spectacular
the 3-D grape vines
crocheted grapes stuffed with cotton wool
fantastic fat vine leaves
traditional Turkish work
famous on Kastellorizo
the kind of thing older people start to value
like being interested in native plants and animals
which I didn’t previously understand
and fitting that
the only agriculture on Kastellorizo
was vineyards
she kept the local past close all those years
love the way the text and image work together and the different threads you're working here

ReplyDeleteThe doily is so beautiful, as is the whole image, and the poem exploring the idea of the local, bringing so many things together. Love it all.
