Anna Couani #141 Morpheus III

Morpheus wakes me up in the early hours
he didn’t sleep yet
standing in the street outside
rambling home after closing time
pausing to take a leak in our garden
mouthing a few words of abuse
at some companion
then starts a full-blown rant
some kind of lecture
that no one listened to before
he believed in art not artifice
but he was wrong

the morning is cool and fresh
construction work has already started
the cat scratches at the door to get out
the eggs sizzle in the pan
the sun is glinting in the front room
lighting up the bookcase
the house warm from last night
open the door for the cat
sniff the air now laden
with the new day
and the night before
