Please don't sit
upon the one arm of my chair
and leave it to hold itself
upright against the fulcrum
to oppose your weight
it is not made so strongly as all that
and the high costs associated
paid out on looks
of skin deep rosy linen
dimpling buttons
and a wide and easy invitation seat
were not spent more wisely
on the reinforcement of the arms
the strengthening underpin of webbing
or the procurement of a superior carcass
and the castored legs
which having early come undone
losing already under the carpenter’s knife
something of their original strength
may not stand up to this
unorthodox approach to sitting
Please don't sit upon
the one arm of my chair
I will be more than sad to have it damaged
I shall be cross
