is growing bigger now
in a pot plant at the
front door
spreading into the
space where we pulled out
the huge euphorbia
humidity and heat are
in the air
you can see the slight
haze in the sunlight
the old Vietnamese
couple
are ripping out their
taro plants
in the garden of the
old flats
to replant for the
summer
down in the mall
everyone is now in T
Shirts
even singlets
thoughts roll over
food
markets
meals to be cooked
stacking up an
inventory
the smell of rain coming
as evening falls
tv news Friday night
the golden light from inside the house
red and blue coloured glass
filtered through the mimosa leaves
now closing up in the dark
that's so lovely... feels like summer already!
ReplyDeleteit's beautiful, Anna, the sensuous zap of it. is your mimosa the same as wattle? I'm never sure. I've read about mimosa for years in northern hemisphere authors and just translated it as wattle in imagination
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeltje and Michele. I call the plant mimosa because it's a bit different from wattle although they're related species. I think mine isn't an Australian native. It was labelled by a science friend. I didn't know what it was. It has leaves like a Jacaranda and they close up at night.
ReplyDeleteThink your mimosa made me notice my blossom tree more. A little unconscious nudge to notice. I love that. Also love your poem. Wonderful image. All that is within.
