some secrets are better
left
unsaid
especially the kinds of secrets
that have been left for too long

perhaps it is better
to let sleeping dogs lie
even if he deserves to have his day

how long is enough time
for things to pass?
a day?
a year?  10 years?

perhaps 20 years is too long
to come forward now

secrets can shape you
twist you in to so many directions
that you no longer know
which way is up
or forward
you're just stuck
between that rock
and that hard place
that place -
that should have been a safe haven
but instead a house of secrets
a house of lies

too much pain
too much misery

secrets shape you
they shape your life
and skew your life choices

life choices
can either make you
or break you
(choose wisely)

for today -
I will choose
to leave my secrets unspoken

for today -
I will choose
to only be bent and not broken

although I know
that sometimes
sleeping dogs can't lie
especially when hounded by fleas.
