Kit Kelen #255 - the thing that's stuck in the back of my head

255
the thing that's stuck in the back of my head

broken record there
you might think earworm
but it isn't

this is worse
something nagging
in the insect line
out of human conversation

wash hair
clean ears
stand on your head
swim a thousand laps
it's still there

it's the head/heart's reflux
zombie-said
bashing your head
against the brick wall
but the bricks
are in your head

ten trillion cells
you're locked in one
where's dogma?
where's the new idea?

so much dust!
such piles!
what rust!

gut feeling's nowhere near the tum
it's here
it's near the back of the head

I won't say there's no filing system
let's just say it's not Dewey
and it's not Library of Congress

you'd water your moke
in the hippocampus
but they haven't made the map

by all means try out for distractions

that something-still-to-resolve
it swings as from the chandeliers
it's Tarzan Lazarus
raising the dead
whose doubt creeps back

one doesn't give the scone a second thought
until some of this shrapnel's lodged

that thing at the back of my woolly noggin!
head-bang music
never shifts it

grog merely makes maudlin

any drug that takes it down
digs up the front garden carrots as well
electric chair's a little drastic

it is a shallow shoal
keeps lapping
where's the surface gone?

I must be true to

maybe you can walk away
but the back of the head comes with you
you're followed
hollowed

one must train one's thought

in order to get anywhere
have to turn things down

the mind's an instrument
to tune

I live towards a contradiction
just to be beyond

yes, you guessed
it's all about me
at least you were right there

I'm going to sit back and watch it
I'm going to listen
like the doctors said I should do with that lump

I'm going to simply observe
see if it grows or goes away
note how often it chimes in
give myself some distance
