Kit Kelen #262 - the moon in the well

262
the moon in the well

the well was there before we dug
we only found a lost reflection

clouds rim round the well's horizon
but everything is lichen, moss
snow tops the well for a season

and even then
one visiting bird
knows an echo by heart

we dropped a single wish to listen
nothing!

we cupped the conch
to ocean's ear
and stars spun round
as it must have been
at world's beginning

all longings gone
far in that glass

every river ran here once
each frail craft was sunk

and still today
the moon's down there
with other coins
we've lost

  1. Beautiful, Kit. An idea that could be worked with for a lifetime or two I think as well. Can you tell me about the image?
