Mikaela Castledine #256 Quokka Asleep

You can see how it would have been
the very first one who felt that his nose resting
on the damp shellgritty ground disturbed his sleep
or who dreamt fitfully
of the vulnerability of tails in the night
and pulled it under
perhaps with a little reversing shuffle
and found it handy
to rest the little tuck of his face clear of the earth
and they all said these newfangled ways
would never catch on
but now everyone is doing it

  2. Wonderful foto and words. When we camped at Rotto during school holidays, the li'l bastards used to steal our food! They'd even roll tins out of our tents - dunno how they intended opening them :-)

  3. even cats do it! This is gorgeous! And what a beautiful shot, for all sorts of reasons, not least because the quokka looks like it's on the edge of rolling
