Black Deaths in Custody
A Warrior # 26-26
A warrior
Speaking out as a translator of the earth
In the deep accent and rhythm of his heart
As a journey of resistance.
His eyes fresh air to our ill hearts.
Hands and words
Transforming the room into a gum tree
Inviting us to fly or swim
Like a crow or barramundi teaching us
To be in harmony with the law of the Dreamtime.
Eyes and tongue
Speaking English words as a battle
Not as the Colonizer’s language
Rather as survival and resistance’s warrior of this land
So very good, Juan. (It led me to think about how we must use the oppressor's language better than the oppressor, so that we can overcome his oppression.)
