I’m wearing my artist’s sleeves today

I’ve got my pinafore or smock

as if to cut the sheaves as if to weave

a willow withy or to shuck

to spindle spin the distaff with the flax

or walk the wooden stairs boots button black

My crochet hooks are holstered ready

an old-fashioned craft done with a twist

but I can dress the part

making in my garret

and I might as well be chic
