Kit Kelen - Series with Jack Picone's photographs - #20 - kip in the bows

20
kip in the bows

from Village X to Village Y
what's a border to the poor?

what's promised?
and what must be done?

these are an ache apart
there's cash on the other side

diesel whiff palls in the still
like today
all this muddy water under

what's a border to the poor?

mainly there's waiting for the world
for the day to come

we see the picture
in print, on the screen
that is our freedom of the sea
to look at what is framed
to tell ourselves a story

what's the sea to the poor?
prow is a promise

who will lie down here tomorrow?
who will the camera bring

for a kip in the bows
on the boards
in the breeze
?

these many crossings the one boat
run barefoot in the dream

skins smooth the timber
too tough to take splinters

  1. What's a border to the poor?
Late night, I guess no moon
    silent as the little wind
    a wire, a noise, gunfire.

  2. Carry your wife
    carry your husband
    a dead child is quiet
    another life stretches ahead.

  3. Me I'm in an F1 bar
    fan force and silly cars
    tyres are pearls first lap
    might as well be Godzilla.
