Efi Hatzimanolis #158 Cairo 2003 snapshots

Cairo trip,
I still have the scar
on my knee

idling army
trucks outside their compound,
I can’t breathe

teenage conscripts with
kalashnikovs,
leer and jeer at me

Saudi prince
swans through the lobby,
Christmas tree

a Coptic wedding
procession,
led by dancing girls

the same wedding party,
outcompeting
call to prayer

  1. Chilling images of armies and kids with rifles as part of everyday life and the contrasting images of colourful? joyful ? dancing girls and celebrations. All that in a small poem - very effective!
