Sarah St Vincent Welch # 196 Augmented

it’s the same walk
our favourite one
shabby sculptures
suburban follies
part of our days
the obscenity and the love token
written in cement
we always read
there's the protest sticker on that bin
a dam and a dog swimming
dutiful ducks
the telephone line runs to the hill

everything's augmented through our mobiles
we hold them before us
like tricorders
walking arm in arm
to a tale of huge mythologies
700 creatures
the pocket monsters

a frontyard trampoline
could be a pokemon pen
the woody grassland
a gym to battle in
Jigglypuff could be asleep
in the school holiday cubby house

there are pokemon near
a pidgy and a zubat
we could join Team Rocket
and be foiled again

remember to be alert at all times
stay aware of your surroundings

  1. Haha, I like the way you start off 'normally' before descending into Pokemon. Yes, stay alert, especially, when you all cross the roads! I've never played this (I know, I know, I have my finger on the pulse...). Is it really as addictive as it sounds?

  2. In my small foray I found it really sweet. I like the narrative and mythology of Pokemon, and I've read about art events with augmented reality, but not been to them, and after playing this game I see its potential. It is simple which really helps. Not too much to learn before you can do something. And then I found it very amusing to see such familiar things with this added playful layer, it's like what I do anyway in my head but another added thing. Also a great excuse to be a bit embarrassing. I never spend money to do something like that. Except the cost of having the phone. But you can. It was pleasing and funny.

    1. Your use of it sounds creative, and lovely, as is usual in your approach to your art which I look forward to every day. Thanks, Sarah. I enjoyed the poem.

  5. Great poem! My wife and daughter have been playing Pokemon Go and are just about to explore our neighborhood while doing so. You have really captured the obsession of the moment.
