at the river edge a song fowl and minnow tawny carp platypus splash at nightfall flow and shadow pause for the winds breath it's shout and cry sing for the Holocene all that's now
Ha. Sarah. Your photo almost looks like an exact memory of a place I was once at in Dimbulah, in far north Queensland, west of the Atherton Tablelands, a hundred years ago. A poundingly hot summer day off from the farm, the 3 of us decide to jump into my mate's ute and head for the nearest creek. We get there, it's glorious. While they're still on the bank, I'm in and halfway across when suddenly a snake pops up in the water a meter away. It follows me back to the creek bank. (There's no accounting for tastes, as my old Ma used to tell me.)
oh, this is pretty magical Sarah - teeming with water nymphs on the borders of air, water, earth.
ReplyDeleteIndeed ... and I think beginning in the moment and ending with the Holocene is so effective. 'pause for the winds breath' is beautiful
