Susan Hawthorne #184 election

having made it to tomorrow
instead of yesterday's poem
I despair at the meanness
displayed in a so-called
victory speech in which
uncounted ballots are assumed
into the entitled camp

by contrast from the other side
comes a generosity of spirit
hope engagement and energy
I know who I hope can form
                         government

  1. I know how eternal hope springs
    now 25 years without recession
a promise of a job or a decent wage
    of no redundancies or cutbacks
    then that premise of power
in the heart with no electricity
how a cat comes to you for warmth
    a small suspension of reason
and how we shout and cheer
    that hope will spring eternal
and 12 submarines make a difference
    to the election of fools

  2. it's their arrogance - their 'born to rule' attitude that gets my back up

  4. Thanks. It is so infuriating. On the other hand when I see the numbers on the AEC I can only smile at that sense of entitllement last night on TV for both Scomo and Turnbull. Karma maybe.
