for Vicky
pipis in the sand have periscopes
or maybe they are snorkels
whatever our weighty feet
pass inches from their survival
starfish stencils are visible in sand
almost hiding under crystalline glass
the tides rises ever so slightly
and the starfish glides on sea-floe
an oval puddle we paddle in
our toes sucking at mud weighing
down our feet we squelch out
of this turtle- or stingray-created hole

I love how you've been reduced to a pair of feet, and the sea creatures are known by their traces in the sand - and everything else that relationship of mutual inscription/tracing implies.
