Julie McElhone #25 you can’t see the wind but for the trees

you can't see the wind but for the trees

the wind is an open-throated sigh
exasperated
the weather is the weather is the weather
the agitation in the air is catching
the tops of trees sway from their knees
their leaves holding on tight
insisting, resisting
like the pressure of a crowd
no one thing is in charge
hope the roots are strong
we’ll know before long
