Nathanael O'Reilly #16 Summer Rain

Summer Rain

summer rain
arrives before sunset

summer rain
lowers the temperature

summer rain
fills our water feature

summer rain
pours from the eaves

summer rain
pools in the flower beds

summer rain
makes green grass glow

summer rain
soaks outdoor furniture

summer rain
runs down the driveway

summer rain
drums on the window

summer rain
drowns out the radio

summer rain
turns grey fences brown

summer rain
washes gutters clean

summer rain
glistens like crystal

  1. Lovely poem - but here in Ireland I've had enough summer rain to last a lifetime - we need some sun!

    1. It's all relative, isn't it?! When it's too hot we yearn for a cool change, and vice versa.

  2. Nat, that's very fine. I'm hearing the song...you singing your rain poem, a strong funky bass line behind, a good drummer (who knows his cymbals) someplace in the middle with a BEAT, then maybe a good blast of B3 organ coming in when it should. (Just my imagination running away from me!) Cheers.

    1. Rob, I absolutely love the sound of that, especially the B3 burst/blast! I cannot sing or play an instrument, but I am a music lover and have often thought it would be great to have some of my poetry set to music. So, if you know a good rhythm section and a keyboard player, have at it!
