Sarah St Vincent Welch #195 Later again, grief (after MC)

when you put your grief away
it will be found in other places
in the corner of a shadow
in the great cathedral he longed to visit

where you lit a candle
his dream rose, in spiral inkwash
whisp
flame to flame

you cried for journeys not taken
loudly in the quiet
his dreams you could live
that he didn't

you found it in the death of an animal friend
all sorrows rose in absent breath
holding them
the memory in your fingers, their quivering belly
holding beating life warm and close
so they didn’t run so
you could keep them safe and with you
then gone
weep for the loss, the loss
more than them

break the vessel
knock it, fumble
as it falls slow slow
catch on fingertips
rock rock fall
touch
call out
as it returns
to what it ever was
broken
pieces
blunt, unmade
spilling out

....that's so true! I'm afraid the whole world nowadays is a kind of garbage dump where you find inexhaustible grief rotting and fermenting ...
