Stuart Rawlinson #22 - Standstill

the sun sets like a cracked egg
spilling yoke across the windows

the evening sits, belly full of acid
muscles low on potassium
shuddering bones across the carpet

fructose and caffeine
capillaries split

the mute, sound-proofed air

the floor is rough on the feet
walls recede, doors rattle
pots in the kitchen

the day hums slow
cooling universe to a stop
